CONNECTIONS

NTConnections 2018

Connections is the National Theatre’s nationwide youth theatre festival. Each year it offers a unique opportunity for youth theatres and school theatre groups to stage new plays written for young people by some of theatre’s most exciting playwrights, and to perform in leading theatres across the UK. We have been selected to participate and given the Natalie Mitchell play ‘When They Go Low’ to produce between March and May 2018. Our first performances will take place in our studio space, The Scaffold Theatre, before a transfer to the Arts Depot in Finchley. We will be able to confirm exact dates shortly, but at this moment we are asking young people to register an interest to take part to info@bodens.co.uk.

This year we have decided to produce the play with our Friday night Repertory Company, opening up the opportunity to join the company for the duration of the rehearsals and performances. The Repertory Company will be open to students aged 13 years upwards and rehearses on a Friday evening from 6.30-8.30pm. So we will begin weekly rehearsals from Friday 12th January to Friday 23rd March 2018.  We will also have two extra rehearsals within April before the transfer to the Arts Depot. The cost of participating in the process will be the same cost as attending the classes. The total amount for the twelve sessions is £120.

WHEN THEY GO LOW by Natalie Mitchell : Social media is in a frenzy over pictures of Sarah at a party on the weekend – no one knows quite what she got  up to. When Miss Reef lectures the girls on taking more responsibility for their actions, Louise becomes  enraged that the boys who took the pictures  aren’t made accountable too. She wages war on the misogyny  but when she threatens school stalwart Scott and his claim to the School Captain title, things get very nasty. A website appears, rating the girls on their appearance and shaming them for their actions. When They Go Low is about everyday feminism and the changing face of teenage sexuality in an online world.
When they go low, we go high.
