Our tutors classes are planned to maintain a balance between technique and performance, ensuring that while students continue to progress in an art form, they always maintain their enthusiasm for it. We also use our performing arts classes as a tool to support the personal and social development of the young people attending our school. In an ever-changing world young people require a place away from home or school where they can perform as themselves. Bodens aims to be that place; not to tell our young people what to say, but to give them the confidence to speak and somewhere they can be heard.
Any student wearing an 'Ambassador' pin badge of our logo is a selected representative of the students in their class. They promote our ethos, work hard within their classes, challenge themselves, ensure new students can find their way and help us to maintain a happy and professional relationship between tutors and students at our school.
We offer free trials in all of our classes so a student can try out anything they want before making a ciommitment to a calls. For our examination classes we offer a two week trial. This also gives our tutors an opportunity to see if the class is right for the student. As long as we have room in a class you can take advantage of a FREE TRIAL at any point during the year.
Each student is known individually by all their tutors. We know their strengths and where they need improvement. At any point during a term just e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org with a student's name and you will receive a written progress report from all their tutors. There is no charge for this service. You can also speak to a member of staff at anytime on 020 8447 0909 or in person, but please refrain from discussing any non urgent issues with a tutor if they are teaching another class. They will always give you a call if you let the admin team know.
In the majority of cases, the best way to settle new students is for parents to get them to go in on their own. If parents remain, students usually refrain from taking part, and in addition, it is only postponing the inevitable moment when they must let go and take that jump. However, we do appreciate that every child (and parent) is different, and although this is usually the best way, on occasion parents may sit in with the child for the first few minutes if they struggle to settle. We're always happy for children on an 'off day' to come back and try again.
We offer several discounts to our classes. Our sibling discount offers a 25% discount on the first sibling, and 50% on the second. Any student attending three classes at Bodens will receive their third class free, if it is a recreational class, or half price, if it is an examination class. These discounts are applied to the lowest priced course/s.
For students that prefer to work behind the scenes, we have many ways in which they can help and learn a craft at the same time. There's rigging and operating the lighting and sound equipment, taking the role of a member of our backstage crew during productions, or as a camera man, sound operator or editor making one of our on-line behind the scenes shows. We also have a youth-led council and a termly magazine.
With the addition of snow to our problems in recent years we are required to include a policy within our terms and conditions. So far our premises have always remained open despite snow, and as we are still required to pay our staff, premises and business rates, we will always try our utmost to do so. If you are unable to attend, you are welcome to come to a different class during the week or make it up later on in the term. If our Enfield Centre is unable to open, which is out of our control, we will move our tutors to our Barnet premises and classes will be available there. Alternatively, you can make it up on another day or time.
Bodens College of Performing Arts, and Bodens Studios, Aim to provide a fun and safe environment for its pupils and its staff.
