From Friday 30th June to Sunday 10th July 2011, students from our weekend performing arts course presented Judith Johnson's 'Scary Play'. The play was written especially for the National Theatre Connections group which helps to promote young talent in Britain.

Kal challenges his friends to do the same, and with varying degrees of reluctance, they disappear into the night. Meanwhile, Kal's much put upon 8 year old sister, Lou, has been listening at the door. Despite the fact that Kal told her it was his sleep-over and babies weren't allowed to take part, Lou sneaks after the gang. Scary Play follows the ten year olds (and Lou) as they creep into the haunted house and each faces up to their own unique fear. Tickets are now on sale for the June - July run of six performances.

As they are portarying ten year old children, the students improvise as their characters in the suitable surroundings of nearby Danegrove Primary School, discovering the events before our play has begun.

10 year old Kal and his mates (Mal, Ro, Tilly, Jaz and Boff) are having a sleep-over round Kal's to celebrate his birthday. As the night draws in, the kids indulge in an age old pastime. Scaring the living daylights out of each other. Kal tells the story of a local house, said to be haunted by the ghost of a man who once lived there with his ageing mother and his pet monkey. As a boy, Kal's Dad and his mates snook into the very same house, only to come screaming out again when they found something absolutely terrifying in the upstairs bedroom.
